A December Trip to Our First Property
In early December, after many weeks of rain, we took a trip to the Oak Meadows property outside of Stayton, OR. This will be the first property purchased by the Trust! Thanks to our donors, we will close on this property in January.
It is a 270 acre property, consisting of extensive wet prairie and wetlands, Oak Woodlands, and an Ash Forest. When we visited, the meadows were full of water, in puddles and shallow flows making their way to the creek on the west portion of the property.
On the other side of the property the water gathered volume, as the creek was receiving quite a bit of water from the surrounding fields. It was gorgeous, with a persistent current.
To the northern portion of the property, the Oak woodland had defined deer tracks, weaving between the trees, and shrubs such as Oregon grape, sword ferns, and snowberry.
The meadow to the southwest was brown, as the native grasses exhibited their seasonal color. While the day was chilly, with grey skies, the whole scene was fantastic. We can’t wait to see how the property erupts with color in the spring time when we can welcome people to the property to have a look around.
We will have more on this soon when the Trust has ownership. Stay tuned!
